‘Tuhan Harun cult may not be involved in murder’
A police source says Tuhan Harun is a rock band which is also involved in operating an Islamic business scam.
However today a police source attached to the Kuantan district police headquarters refuted news reports claiming that the group was responsible for the murder, by saying that police were still investigating the matter.
“We are still open for investigation. I can’t say that the group is responsible because we are looking at all angles.
“We are investigating the group but that doesn’t mean that they are responsible. We are also looking at other possibilities. Are they involved? Maybe. Anyone can speculate,” he said when contacted.
When asked on the group’s activities, the police source described that the group consists of rock musicians as they had a rock band with a private studio.
“They have a guitarist who used to compose songs, a few songs. They also have a drummer and a bassist which make them a complete rock band.
“They have their own studio, I guess it is used to practice or to jam.
“It is also true that they only performed during maghrib prayers. The genre is rock but they insert elements of divinity,” the source added.
The police source then specified that the group was mainly active in the east cost with approximately 150 members from Pahang and Kelantan, while adding that the group was also active in conducting a business scam.
“Last April, we arrested the leader and charged seven out of 31 group members. They are involved in an Islamic financial scam,” he said.
“They have been operating for more than a year now,” he added.
No presence in Selangor
Meanwhile, Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) confirmed that Tuhan Harun has no base in Selangor and affirmed that none of Tuhan Harun members were preaching in Selangor.
“In Selangor there are no activity of Tuhan Harun cult group. This is for sure.
“However, there are members of the group who reside in Selangor. They are staying in Selangor but they do not practice what they learned from Tuhan Harun in Selangor,” a JAIS source told FMT.
On Sunday, Ahmad Rafli Abdul Malek, an enforcement officer for JAIP was gunned down in front of his house in Indera Mahkota 2 after three men dressed in black attire and skullcaps fired several shots at him.
Earlier reports suggested that Rafli was involved in the arrest of the deviant Tuhan Harun group whose leader Harun Mat Saad was charged at a Sessions court in Kota Baru for taking RM40 million in deposit from several companies and his followers.
It was also learnt that the victim was also involved in several night club raids in Kuantan.
